Dislocada/Dislocated Video Performance Showcase 2024
“The Voice of the Four Elements and Climate Change”
The four elements air, fire, earth and water have had a fundamental importance not only in the creation of the cosmos but also on that of our planet. For this reason, since ancient times, these elements have formed an important part in the development of ideas such as mythology, religion, the mystical, alchemy, astrology, philosophy and the sciences among others. These elements also play an important role in the environmental manifestations of our planet, which is currently experiencing an accelerated climate crisis caused by human activity; what some scientists have called the *Anthropocene.
Working with these ideas, this year’s Dislocada/Dislocated Puerto Rico, Philadelphia, and Wilmington, NC Video Performance Showcase will feature the work of 20 performance artists from 18 countries addressing the current climate and environmental crisis we are experiencing. Countries represented include: Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Mexico, the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Taiwan, Ukraine, The United Kingdom, USA, and Venezuela. Climate change has begun to impact the biodiversity of the planet leading to the displacement of human beings caused by fires, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, water scarcity, the extinction of flora and fauna as well as the agronomic impact on the land and food production. These environmental changes will inevitably form part of a new geopolitics of destabilization, as countries, people and governments respond to the displacement of flora, fauna, but also of human beings as climate refugees. Not to mention armed conflict.
This year’s showcase will take place in Philadelphia, PA as part of the 2024 Fringe Festival, and will be held at the Open Kitchen Sculpture Garden, on during their Wednesday’s Pot Luck @ 2241 N Philip St, Philadelphia, PA 19133.
